Inspired by the apocalyptic vision of a "woman clothed with the sun", medieval theologians, painters, and poets adorned the head of the Virgin Mary with crowns of all kinds: of stars, signs of the zodiac, precious stones, medallions, flowers, and plants. In connection with this tradition, we also decided to compose a poetic "Virgin Mary's Crown" of this kind, consisting of twelve Polish medieval songs. And because in our time the place once occupied by Latin has been taken over, at least in part, by the English language, we multiplied this "crown" by adding translations of all the songs, prepared especially for this anthology by Professor Michael Mikoś, an American Slavicist and translator from the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
