The book is an anthology: a selection made from among thousands of pages of the translations of Iliad and Odyssey and supplements to these written by Quintus Smyrnaeus, and studies on these works published by Jacek Przybylski. The book aims at presenting the contemporary reader with a handful of notes, or rather quotations, that would allow reintroduction of this original and forgotten form of Polish literary creation to a wider group of readers and its revival in the historical awareness of literature. Of considerable interest may also be the manner of translation, the characteristic language, the very emotional punctuation, etc. So as to lose no character of the source, the book resorted to the traditional method known from "chrestomathies": careful reproduction of the original form, refusing even to resort to retouching that could 'repair' the parts poorly copied due to the technical conditions caused by the binding of the copy of the book used for reproduction.
