The publication is a reproduction of Piotr Dubrowski's paper on Ivan Gundulić, the distinguished 17th-century Croatian poet. The paper was published in "Biblioteka Warszawska" in 1841. This interesting paper is an example of the Panslav tendencies of that time and reflects interest shown in it by Polish intellectuals under the Partitions (1795-1918). A decade after the first edition of Gundulić's Osman, a Polish scholar published a moving translation of extracts from it, writing (at time when Poland was not on the map of Europe!), "I think I have brought pleasure to my readers by presenting this great poet, who was born in a distant country but is no stranger to us and connected to us trough the family of Slavs, and in whose poetry we hear familiar tones." This facsimile is dedicated to one of the most outstanding contemporary Slavists, Professor Radoslav Katičić. It includes a reproduction of autographs of the Polish national anthem and its Croatian counterpart.
