In this bibliophile printing, on the basis of six graphics preserved in the collections of the Polish Academy of Science and depicting Alexander von Humboldt in various periods of his life, two arguments, in an essaylike discussion, are presented: how, on the basis of these portraits, it is possible to observe the passage of life of a remarkable persona, and how, with by means of commonly known factographic data it is possible to reconstruct a world that sur-rounds the portrayed person, in order to better present his effigy. All reproduced pictures are discussed in the context of their artistic value and the graphic techniques that were employed.
