It is a certain paradox that the most fundamental and best work of Polish Classicism, which also played a key role during the birth of our national Romanticism, has had no critical study devoted to it. Now is the best time for introduction of a work, which still remains unknown to the Polish literary heritage, and which has not been known to Polish literature in its finite form, even though it had such a powerful and obvious influence during the few decades of its creation. It is high time to lift the curse cast maliciously and unfairly by the young Mickiewicz, ridiculing "a thousand poems on planting peas". The present edition is published to serve literary critics and researchers, students, and other readers interested in the subject.
