This opuscle by Stanisław Czerniecki is the first Polish cookery book, dating back to 1682. It contains more than three hundred recipes for meat, fish and vegetarian dishes together with a variety of practical instructions for the head cook in charge of His Lordship's kitchen. The facsimile edition of this literary monument, containing photographic reproductions of the pages of the original copy, brings back in an unusually suggestive way a picture of everyday life in seventeenthcentury Poland.
