The book is in part a reprint and in part an edition of 17th century Polish Eulenspiegel literature (1605). Dzwonowski's text is a grotesque view of reality, a topsy-turvy world, characteristic of the contemporary literature. Hence the bizarre idea of a law whereby a thief deserves praise because there is a greater chance of him "robbing the rich to help the poor," unlike the niggardly miser who spends his entire life just hoarding.
