The book is devoted to Ruthenian writing culture within the Republic, and is a continuation of the author?s considerations continued in the volume entitled Wiara i historia (Faith and History, Krakowsko-wileńskie studia slawistyczne 1, Kraków 1976). It concentrates mostly around the problem of existence of two distinct models of culture: the Orthodox, connected with Constantinople, and Uniate tied to Rome, pointing at both their distinctive features and elements they share. Alexandr Naumow?s reflections are accompanied by a selection of texts characteristic for the turn of the 16th and the 17th centuries. They are the first translations from the Ruthenian/Russian/Ukrainian into Polish. The translations were made by young specialists from a number of academic centres.
This is what Professor Wacław Hryniewicz, Ph.D. (KUL, Instytut Ekumeniczny) wrote about the author of the book: |
